- I'd say two or three. Chickens tend to like company, and two isn't a hard number to start with. You can, however, have severe problems between chickens when introducing new members.
- Most will be fine in the heat ; ensure they have shade, access to the coop and water at all times. I'd personally suggest bantams ; they're a great first chicken.
- Generally chickens need about 3 sq ft of space each outside and 1 sq ft each inside a coop which sounds not a lot - and it isn't - so really they appreciate as much space as you can give them.
- Not much ; clean the coop twice a week or more, same with the patch you keep them on. Fresh water and food daily. Then just shut the coop at night. Take the food inside to deter vermin.
- A basic chicken feed along with egg (with the shell), and table scraps.
- As I'm in England I can't even give you estimates for food.
- Get proper chicken feeders, and fill them to the top with water. These are best kept under the coop so they stay in the shade.
- Answered above
- The only one really is red mites - oil their legs every so often and you can also get repellents for it.
- It isn't a common occurence at all, but the chuck may act lethargic, tired, and generally off-colour. You can try holding her back end over a bowl of hot water for about 5 minutes, the warm steam will help the egg come out. If the hen egg binds, I would suggest getting a vet involved the first few times until you and the kids are completely sure you know what to do.
- Yes, that's fine :)

All I will say is, if you choose to get a cockerel and raise chicks, ask your neighbors first. They are extremely noisy and start as soon as it gets light.

we have just built a coop at the bottom of the yard and we used fence panels from a building site the mesh type and you can buy them from hire shops quite cheap also the pen is quite easy to move about which will give your grass chance to grow back
if you were to ask at a building site if they had any spare panels or damaged ones they might let you have
i work on building sites and we are forever changing panels and we always stack damaged panels in the corner out the way

Yes it does, despite the enormous sacrifice made the American Pacific Forces as they fought bloody battle after bloody battle trying to recapture one island after the other. Then to be ordered to attack Okinawa where over 76,000 people died. Then of course the enormous sacrifice by the Americans on Omaha beach on the very first day of he D-Day landings, where to quote S.L.A.Marshall's " First Wave at Omaha"-
"ABLE Company riding the tide in seven Higgins boats is still five thousand yards from the beach when first taken under artillery fire. The shells fall short. At one thousand yards, Boat No. 5 is hit dead on and foundered. Six men drown before help arrives. Second Lieutenant Edward Gearing and twenty others paddle around until picked up by naval craft, thereby missing the fight at the shore line. the economies of various sovereign states is beyond me since in the long term it creates more problems than it solved. ( This is just a small part of the book)
At the end of 1945 the arrival of the Russians on the northern islands of Japan helped to bring that war to an end, despite the fact that two nuclear bombs hadn't had much impact on Japanese aggression; at that time many thousands of Americans and Allied POW's were held in various camps by the Japanese and in some instances Japanese POWs had been used in diabolical medical experiments very similar to those conducted by the Germans against the Jews, yet those evil ******** were given immunity from prosecution in return for their findings by the US government.

Even to this day America is quietly making trillions of dollars out of loaning dollars to other nations wanting to buy commodities. They virtually print dollars for free then charge 7-8% on the deals and none of this money appears on balance sheets. Check out a paper written by Hausmann & Sturzeneggar , from Harvard in November 13th 2005, entitled "US Global Imbalances- Can "Dark Matter" prevent the Big Bang" ? But how many are even aware that this goes on?

Why must the US build air bases everywhere? When the Russians tried to install nuclear missiles on Cuba Kennedy was prepared to risk nuclear war; Kruschev saw the wisdom and backed off.
If America would only do as much for the Palestinians as she has done for Israel then Americans wouldn't be so reviled throughout the world today.
Britain only recently finished paying America for the money she borrowed to buy war equipment during WW2 !
When Mexico defaulted in the 80's the Mexicans wanted to pay off their debt quickly but the Supreme Court ensured that their loan was paid over the full term thereby earning a fortune in interest.
As for 9/11, I too feel that the evidence points to collusion on the part of the US Government, simply in order to get a mandate for war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
If the Chinese decided to stop buying US Treasury Bonds, America would really suffer and in my book the people have suffered enough. They certainly do not deserve to be double crossed by their own government; that is just obscene but would the forces of law and order allow US prosecutors to establish the truth- sadly I doubt it. Sadly it's not the left wing radicals that you need to fear its the enormously rich and powerful people on the right- they have no allegiance to anyone except themselves and money.

Your best option is to build one yourself. However, you do need more than what another answerer said (a run), you need a proper predator proof shelter. You can see more by going to www.allaboutchickens.tk and clicking on coops.

You could try to draw the shed plans yourself. Just a suggestion since I havent seen any answers. Just be creative, you know you need a frame. Triangles are stronger than squares. Do you have any family or friends that could help you? There might be videos on how to build things on youtube.com. My dad and I built a chicken coop and just used 2x4's and chicken wire, with V nails to hold it on. Hope I helped you a little at least.
